Doctors strike 15-19 June

BMA

Resident doctors in England will strike again from 7am 15 June to 7am 19 June.

This is part of their continuing battle for pay restoration, i.e. to have their real wages restored over time to their levels of 2008-9. Resident doctors agreed a deal with the Labour government in September 2024 which gave a sizeable rise for one year and some hope of progress, but the government has stalled them since then.

Under the pay issue is also one of training places. While Accident and Emergency departments remained understaffed, only one in 14 of doctors applying for an A&E training place gets one.

Resident doctors in Northern Ireland, where the NHS is in an even worse plight than in England, announced a ballot result on 9 June and will strike over pay on 25 and 29 June.
