Workers’ unity across borders

Out of pique at not getting the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump now says he might go to war to seize Greenland. Or rather, he’s definitely going to trade war, and perhaps for military war too. We:

• Support the right of Greenlanders to decide the future of their island

• Look to the US left and labour movement to stop Trump

• Oppose tariff retaliation, which can create a vicious spiral of rising prices, decreasing trade, and higher barriers between nations.

This latest twist shows the folly of Starmer wooing Trump. Peter Mandelson, as official British ambassador, was servile and vocal in praise for Trump for months until Epstein scandal at last forced him to resign. Yet the much-touted “US-UK trade deal” has still not been signed.

Answer

Our basic answer is workers’ unity across borders, and to help that we want lower borders. Majority opinion now in Britain is for rejoining the EU. Solidarity campaigns in the labour movement for the Labour government immediately to re-enter the Single Market (including free movement) and the Customs Union, and to go for negotiations for rejoining.
