June 18 marks the 41st anniversary of the Battle of Orgreave, when tooled-up police attacked picketing miners in Orgreave, South Yorkshire. Over 120 people were injured in the attack and 95 arrested, all charged with unlawful assembly or riot. When police evidence was later shown to be false, all were acquitted.
The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign (OTJC) has called for a full public inquiry into the events. Labour’s 2024 manifesto pledged an inquiry, but has done nothing to start it.
The OTJC held their annual Orgreave anniversary march and rally in Sheffield on 14 June, attended by hundreds of supporters from the trade union movement.
The Labour government has a duty to fulfill their promise of a public inquiry and bring whatever justice they can to those long impacted by the events at Orgreave. Hold the Labour leaders to their promises!
