Iranian left calls for peace

Socialists and leftists in Iran certainly do not want the Israeli bombs now raining down on their cities.

But they have no interest in Iran’s rulers getting the nuclear-weapon and other military capacity which could enable them to make reality of their threats to destroy Israel. They are not calling for Iranian victory over Israel.

Iranian and Israeli academics have said:

“We call on both sides and the international community to take immediate steps toward ending the violence. They must find a way to bring all parties on the path of diplomacy. An immediate ceasefire should be the first step toward a broader diplomatic solution”.

The Iranian teachers’ union declares: “What the rulers of Israel and domestic extremists inflict upon the people is a crime”.

The exile-leftist Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) reports:

“The current crisis is being weaponised to unleash a new and terrifying level of repression. Dozens of civilians have already been arrested for nothing more than photographing or filming the aftermath of the strikes, facing baseless charges of ‘collaboration with Israel’.

“Inside the notorious Evin Prison, particularly Ward 8, authorities have cut off all phone communications, severing the prisoners’ only link to the outside world. As of June 15, 2025... credible reports that the Women’s Ward of Evin Prison remains under total communication blackout.

“Simultaneously, the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps has launched a wave of threats and intimidation targeting journalists and human rights defenders”.

We oppose the threat of the clerical-fascist rulers of Iran getting nuclear weapons and mass-missile capacity to make good their promise to destroy Israel; their 45-year-old repression within Iran; their warring in the region, in support of Assad and elsewhere; Netanyahu’s war which has large civilian casualties in Iran and a real threat of wider war as calculated collateral; and the horrors inflicted by Netanyahu on Gaza and the West Bank.

Support the opposition in Israel and in Iran! Stop the war! Peace! A real independent Palestinian state alongside a secure Israel.
