A woman who held up a sign that read “Righteous people live, villains must die” was taken into a police van on Tuesday [19 Nov], after a Hong Kong court sentenced 45 democrats to up to ten years in jail for conspiring to commit subversion under Beijing’s national security law. People were seen crying outside the Kowloon courthouse after the sentences were announced, with prominent legal scholar Benny Tai receiving the longest jail term of 10 years.
