Two of many deaths

Hundreds attended the funeral of the life-long Canadian-Israeli peace and women’s right activist Vivian Silver, on Thursday 16 November. The co-founder of “Women Wage Peace” had been believed to be kidnapped. Her house was burned and gutted. Her body was eventually identified by DNA; she was murdered in her home in Kibbutz Be’eri, Israel.

A tribute to her from WWP; WWP’s first response to the massacre and Israel’s retaliation; Standing Together organiser Uri Weltmann’s update following the funeral.

Placards on Israeli protests calling for ceasefire and hostage exchanges have honoured her memory. Socialist Worker, which responded with a call to “rejoice” at the massacre of 1,200 people, mostly civilians, many children, is yet to clarify whether it rejoices at her murder too.

Four days earlier, on 12 Nov, a young Fatah supporter, Basel, was killed by an Israeli air strike in Gaza. He had just tweeted: “Oslo returned 750k Palestinians to their homeland, Hamas displaced them, Arafat reclaimed Gaza, but your so-called resistance brought back the occupation [the IDF]. You [Hamas] have sentenced yourselves to death to chase after Khamenei while selling out your people. Long live stupidity.” Hamas had already responded by threatening his life. @khaliljeries
