Silvertown Tunnel protest

Around 500 people protested against the Silvertown Tunnel on Saturday 26 February.

The Silvertown Tunnel is a £2 billion project to construct a four lane tunnel underneath the Thames in East London. It will benefit road haulage firms and business people flying in and out of City Airport. It is incompatible with climate commitments and will further poison the air in some of the most polluted boroughs in London.

London mayor Sadiq Khan is putting public money into this scheme while simultaneously running down London Underground. The labour movement must insist he represents working-class Londoners and use public money to create the green public transport system we need.
