Sepideh Gholian - student, social rights’ activists and journalist who was arrested on 18 November while she was supporting and reporting on the strike of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers - was freed from jail, on bail, on 18 December.

Esmail Bakhshi, a leading Haft Tappeh workers' representative of the Haft Tappeh workers, was released on 12 December.

Ali Nejati, a retired member of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers Union executive committee, was transferred from jail to the cardiac unit of Baghaii Hospital in Ahvaz on 13 December. Like Bakhshi and Ghalian, he had been mistreated in jail.

According to the International Alliance in Support of Workers in Iran, more than 40 workers have been arrested after two consecutive days of brutal raids on the homes of the striking workers of the Ahvaz Steel Complex. The steelworks is about 100km south of the sugar cane complex, both of them in the south-west corner of Iran, and the steel and sugar strikers have been vocal about their solidarity with each other.

IASWI reports: "About 31 workers were arrested at about 2 am, Monday, December 17, 2018 and at least another 10 workers were arrested on December 18, 2018".
