No to War! No to the Islamic Republic of Iran!

The people of Iran face two threats simultaneously: the prospect of imperialist American-led military action and sanction and the ongoing but accelerated repression and despotism of the Islamic regime in Iran.

The threat of the occupying imperialist forces and their long-term plans for the region and Iran are better known in the west. The occupying capitalist forces know that the prospect of a military action or sanctions against Iran will harm the people of Iran but that has no place in their calculations. The occupying forces ultimately want a change from the above and Iraq are painfully evident. We, together with Iranian people, are forcefully against any imperialist attempt wage or sanctions against Iran. Any kind of military action or sanctions by the USA, Britain and their alles, will not only bring mass death and destruction, but also undermine people’s struggles against the regime.

What is less known outside Iran is the threat of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Iranian people. This regime is one of the most atrocious and ruthless dictatorships in the world today.

Since it took power in 1979, any attempts and movements by workers, women, students, and minorities in Iran to gain basic rights have been savagely crushed by the Regime. The Islamic Regime has managed to maintain the capitalist relations in its most invasive and destructive form with an Islamic flavour. The Iranian working class does not have the right to strike, to collective bargaining, to free associations and independent trade unions or other basic democratic rights. The vicious anti-labour “labour law” is aimed at blocking any workers’ attempt to organise in the face of lay-offs, mass unemployment, long working hours, wage cuts, delayed wages, lack of national insurance and attacks on retirement and vacation rights.

If workers portest they face violence — as the massacre of Khatoon-Abad copper workers in January 2004, or attacks on members of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs United Bus Company in January 2006 confirmed.
