Chirac backs down on CPE

Submitted by AWL on 10 April, 2006 - 11:22

Monday morning, 10/04/06: President Chirac announced twenty minutes ago that he withdraw the CPE [the new law allowing French employers to sack young workers at will].

He will remplace it by "measures for youth jobs", but has not explained what those will be.

The natonal coordination still demands the full withdrwal of the law (which includs many other issues), the CNE [which allows easy sacking of workers in small workplaces] and the CEDESA (a new law against migrant workers) and calls for demonstrations on 11 and 18 April.

Let's see how the movement will continue in these conition, but this is a first victory.
