IN TIR NA N'OG

IN TIR NA N'OG
I got drunk to wash my fear away:
Everything was not OK,
But I could bear it better.

I got drunk, and fell into a sleep
Of turmoil: there, time had a softer grip,
And I could bear it better.

I cowered twenty years alone:
When I woke, the friends of my youth were gone;
But I could bear it better.

I saw the day was nearly done,
The sun in the sky going down;
But I could bear it better.

The sun is almost out of sight:
Coming to the end of the letter,
Now, I bear it better!
