Refurb Troubles

Cally Road thought it might have a quiet Christmas, as the refurb was supposed to have been finished last month. But no - it still trundles on.

Some people might think that £30k for a desk, £15k for a little cabinet, and £60k for ceiling bulkheads in the Ticket Hall is a right bargain. Others, though, might point out that you can get some of that stuff at Argos for one-thousandth of the price.

All in all, it's £2.3m for the work, installing new cameras, communcations and a new floor. Tubeworker wonders how much of that will end up in TubeLines' profit accounts or directors' pockets.

Typically, one company installs the stuff, then rides off over the horizon while another company does the maintenance. Result: problems, eg. the comms' equipment's hard drive having to be replaced twice already.

PPP: what a daft way to run a railway.
