🌹 The landslide election of a Labour government ended 14 years of Tory rule. It places into government a party with historic links to the trade union movement, including the direct affiliation of many large unions.
But it is also a party led by pro-capitalist politicians committed to “fiscal responsibility” (meaning: cuts), who openly court big business and whose leader previously banned MPs from attending picket lines.
What opportunities, and challenges, does the election of a Labour government pose for trade unionists? What demands should we prioritise, and how can we win them?
Speakers include Sam Ashley, secretary of RMT London Underground Engineering branch, which recently passed a resolution on this issue, subsequently adopted by the RMT London Transport Regional Council. Further speakers TBA.
