In-Cab Checks?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

As management fell over themselves to get the train service running after the Metronet strike was called off, it appears that they may have been prepared to cut some corners when it came to safety standards. Yes, really.

By the end of the strike, a section of track near Plaistow had not been checked for five days - so obviously, trains could not run over it until it was checked.

But LUL management had the cheek to suggest that perhaps this could be done more quickly if the track was checked by people riding in a drivers' cab! Huh? How on earth are you supposed to see cracked rails or loose bolts from inside a cab?

Drivers, rightly, refused to go along with this, and the service resumption had to wait until the track was checked properly.
