Bakerloo Lone Working: Vote YES For Action

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

RMT is now balloting members on the Bakerloo line to stop management imposing lone working. Drivers, detrainment staff and North Group stations reserve staff will all get a vote, and should all vote YES for industrial action.

While LUL claim to put safety first and to be customer-focused, the company is imposing a working practice which endangers its staff and reduces its customer service! Detrainment and reserve staff will be vulnerable to assault, in an area where violent crime is 40% higher than the national average and stations are not well-endowed with security facilities.

Drivers are to expected to help with the detrainments, putting them in the firing line too. On top of that, management is making no allowance in the timetable, which is already highly impractical.

Management have refused to listen to the union's arguments during negotiations, so we now have no choice but to speak in a language that they do understand. ASLEF needs to come on board with this fight too - no assailant is going to check which union you are in before belting you! If the Society does not join the action officially, then members should do so by respecting picket lines.
