AWL member Bob Sutton, who is Liverpool Guild of Students Vice President, will be speaking at this event, putting forward our view of the necessary link between class struggle inside Israel and the oppression of the Palestinians.

Israeli Social Justice Protest - event on Monday 20th

Organised by Liverpool Jewish Society, who say:

"Daphni Leef, aged 25, from a secular Jewish family in Jerusalem, sparked off one of the largest waves of mass protest in Israel’s history. Her encampment on Rothchild Boulevard, central Tel Aviv, aimed to protest about the extortionate housing costs in Israel, and to promote a welfare-state model in a country where 20% of it’s population (around 1.5 million people) live below the poverty line.

"The tent protests, demanding social justice, attracted 430 000 people (7% of the population), and according to a poll for Ha’aretz newspaper, gained the support of 87% of the population.

"Come and hear how one woman attracted mass protests, that called for social justice and equal opportunities for the working class."

AWL member Daniel Lemberger Cooper’s victory in the recent elections at the University of London Union (2-9 February) was won in the teeth of a large campaign, orchestrated by the SWP, branding Cooper a “racist” on the grounds that he is “a Zionist”, i.e. he defends Israel’s right to exist and to defend itself, while also supporting the right of the Palestinians to an independent state of their own alongside Israel.
