“The attempt of the bourgeoisie during its internecine conflicts to oblige all humanity to divide up into only two camps is motivated by a desire to prohibit the proletariat from having its own independent ideas.

The crisis between Iran and the US entered a new stage with the election of Mahmoud Ahmedinejad to the presidency of the Islamic Republic last June. Amina Saddiq looks at the background
Took a few days break in Paris, amongst other things, to go on the demo in Paris on August 12 against the Israeli attack on Lebanon. Images and short video of LCR and LO contingent below.
I give a superficial impression below(as my French is not good so conversations were very limited) but it seems as though the demo which was about 5-10,000 was in three blocs.
Over the last 2 Saturdays Nottingham AWL supporters in the Campaign for 2 States along with activists from the local Jewish Socialist Groups (and Jewish Peace Campaign) and people from the Nottingham University Peace Movement, have been protesting in Nottingham City Centre.
Gush Shalom (who are known not to make exaggerations on such things) report the biggest anti-war march of the present war yesterday, 5th August, in Tel Aviv, Israel. 10,000 marched in spite of difficulties in movement around Israel and the war hysteria with physical attacks on the marchers. Proportionate to population this is equivalent to a demonstration of 100,000 in the UK.
Has any one seen the current issue of Socialist Worker. It has an Article by George Galloway. The last lines are "I glorify the Hizbollah resistance movement, and I glorify the leader of Hizbollah, Sheikh Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah".
Stop this destructive war! Workers on all sides are paying the price!
A statement by the Workers Advice Center in Israel in relation to Israel's attack on Lebanon.
Since July 12, Israel has been carrying out a disproportionate and murderous war in Lebanon . It has killed hundreds of innocent civilians, including whole families. It has destroyed much of the infrastructure in the south, creating a humanitarian disaster. Those who suffer most are the workers and the poor. At the same time, the IDF continues to pummel Gaza , here too killing innocent civilians. The goal behind all this destruction is to restore the country's power of deterrence. It needs this power so that it can continue to behave unilaterally––without concessions to the Palestinians or the Syrians.

“For almost forty years we have stressed the class struggle as the immediate driving force of history, and in particular the class struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat as the great lever of the modern social upheaval; it is therefore impossible for us to ally with people who wish to expunge this class struggle from the movement...We cannot ally with people who say that the workers are too uneducated to emancipate themselves and must first be freed from above by philanthropic bourgeois and petty bourgeois.”

George Bush has now been moved to concede some "mistakes" in Iraq. The US has now begun to investigate a massacre that, according to all indications, was not just a "mistake", but — like torture in Abu Ghraib — a logical and predictable product of the general brutality and arrogance of the US occupation in Iraq.
The following statement is being circulated by the Worker-communist Party of Iran. We publish it here to further debate.
