The case for class-struggle feminism: a speaker tour

Submitted by AWL on 7 October, 2011 - 12:18

"No socialism without women's liberation - no women's liberation without socialism"

In Britain women have won a large measure of formal equality, but sexism, inequality and oppression continue. How can we win genuine liberation?

The Tory government's cuts and attacks on jobs and services will hit working-class and poor women hardest. They act as a stark reminder that liberation for all women is impossible under a system which... puts luxury and profits for a few above the needs of the vast majority.

What is the relationship between capitalism, class struggle and women's liberation? Would getting rid of capitalism automatically solve the problem of women's oppression? How can a powerful women's movement against the Tories' attacks emerge? And what kind of feminist movement do we need to pave the way for it?

To discuss these questions, and put the case for a socialist feminism, Workers' Liberty is holding a conference on 26 November: see here and the Facebook event here.

In the run up to the conference, we are organising a speaker tour with meetings across the country. Speakers will include Jade Baker of NUS Women's Committee (pc).

See dates below for a meeting near you!
