Refusal of ad hoc holiday requests.

We're getting a bit feed up on the Arnos grove group on the Picc line with ad-hoc holiday requests being refused even though they have been requested with more than 28 days notice. In one example 7 months notice was given!
Usual excuse is 'no cover available' no spares, someone elses holiday period etc.
Management need to actually manage the admin staff who has got a reputation of a character out of Little Britain,' the computer says no'.
We are apparently over establishment on the group but still have no cover?

I'm informed at the moment we have the highest sickness record on the combine. Why do you think this is?
A 28 day advance roster was requested ,as in line with the frame work agreement, and for some reason this has caused some angst with the admin. So now they will not produced a 'rest day roster'for the reserve staff blaming a single member of staff ( only one of whom had requested a 28 day roster in view of the framework agreement) and a totally unhelpful view to duty and leave requests.

Used to be an excellent group to work in. Whats changed??

That's a shocker - 7 months'

That's a shocker - 7 months' notice but still refused! Does this company expect us not to have a life - or just to fit what life we have around their needs?!

This problem is getting worse for one simple reason - the job cuts. With staffing levels now at bare bones levels, it is harder even for co-operative admin staff to cover someone being off. Yet again, we are being made to suffer for management's disregard for staffing needs.

Having said all that, the agreements say that if your rep requests a rest-day roster, management have to conduct a survey of reserve staff (separately for each grade) in conjunction with the union reps, and if a majority want it, they should introduce it.
