Cleaners working at The Guildhall, in the heart of London's financial district, have won a significant victory in a battle with their bosses, the sub-contractor Ocean Contract Cleaning Ltd. After strike action and a demonstration on Friday 15 July, management agreed to pay all unpaid backpay to the cleaners and open up collective bargaining negotiations with their union, the Industrial Workers of the World. The victory will resonate with cleaning workers throughout the capital, many of whom are in a similar position to the Guildhall cleaners and are employed by cowboy contractors.
