Drop the charges against Anoosheh Azadbar!

Iran

From Education Not for Sale

Earlier this year, NUS conference elected Iranian socialist student activist Anoosheh Azadbar Honorary Vice-President of NUS. (Anoosheh’s candidacy was organised by supporters of ENS; for more information, see here.) On 4 September, Anoosheh was brought before a court in Iran.

She faces charges of

- plotting against the Islamic regime
- plotting against the Islamic order
- acting against Iranian national interests with a left wing group

The charges arose in connection to her involvement in a student anti-war demonstration in December last year - one of a series of demonstrations that sparked the widespread arrest of student activists at the start of 2008.

If Anoosheh is convicted she could be jailed for years.

The judge decided that Anoosheh will have to return to court for further questioning; no date has yet been set. Several other student leaders are also facing similar charges.

More information about protests in solidarity with Anoosheh and her comrades soon.

Something fishy about this...

The text is funnily familiar. It looks almost exactly the same as the HOPI press release with bits chopped off! http://www.hopoi.org/press-stu1.html

So what? Didn't hear you

So what? Didn't hear you complaining when HOPI reprinted this without attributing it, and the whole campaign, to ENS. (Then again, it's not possible to post comments on the HOPI or CPGB websites...)

Huh?

Surely that's the point of a press release? You release it to the press and they, erm, use it.

Bizarre comment.

Surely...

Surely the point is to put where the press release came from?
