Why Brook Community Primary School parents & carers are voting Janine Booth & Charlie McDonald, Socialist Unity
On May 4th, we should elect Councillors who will stand up for us, our kids and our school. Our current Councillors don’t care about Brook. It is the only primary school in Hackney Central ward, yet none of them is even a governor.
We don’t have to pick between career politicians who are not interested in us. We can vote for local campaigners with a track record of sticking up for us: Janine and Charlie, your Socialist Unity candidates.
Janine Booth
- has two sons at Brook school, Alex (year 2) and Joe (nursery)
- has spoken up about several issues at the school, including the merging of three year 1 classes into two last year
- is Chair of Aspland & Marcon Estates Tenants’ & Residents’ Association, which fought off privatisation last year
- has campaigned on many local issues: opposing nursery and library closures, defending Freedom Passes, saving our green spaces, and opposing ALMO
Charlie McDonald
- works in the Social Security office in Sylvester Road
- is the regional organiser for the PCS civil service trade union
- has led successful campaigns against the siting of mobile phone masts
- is an active campaigner for better pensions
We campaign for:
- smaller class sizes
- teaching, not testing
- the books, equipment, and other facilities our school needs
- all schools to be good-quality schools - not just the privileged few
- special help for kids with special needs
- increased public funding
Support Our School’s Staff
- Decent pay and conditions for all - teachers, school meals staff, caretaker, teaching assistants, admin, crossing wardens.
- Decent pensions for all - support the staff trade unions’ campaign against cuts in pension rights
- Support the staffs’ efforts to improve the school
Stop the Secondary Schools Places Lottery
- 234 Hackney year 6 kids do not have a school place next year.
- Our local secondary school, Mossbourne, operates a 60% quota for local kids - many of our children can not get a place.
- Tony Blair’s new education policies will make things even worse - but our Council fully supports them.
Janine & Charlie campaign:
- for every child’s right to a place at a good local school
- for new schools, but against private sponsors
- for local schools to be improved, not closed (like Homerton has been)
Vote Charlie & Janine
Hackney Central is a working-class area. We can not be represented properly by people who grovel to central government and its big business sponsors.
Charlie and Janine will never vote for cuts in education or other services.
Charlie and Janine will not pocket the fat-cat allowances that Councillors give themselves, but will claim only genuine expenses and give the rest to community campaigning.
- public services not private profit
- on your side not in Blair’s pocket
- campaigning socialists, not Town Hall careerists
