DLR: Strike threat wins pay rise
By Tubeworker
Created 24 Dec 2005 - 5:23pm

In the last issue of Tubeworker [1], we reported that DLR staff were balloting for strike action after a Scrooge-like pay offer from the company.

The good news is that they returned a whacking great Yes vote, throwing the bosses into a panic and producing a much-improved pay offer. RMT will now hold a referendum of its DLR members recommending acceptance of the new offer.

156 voted to strike, with only 17 against - that's a 91% majority on a 65% turnout. As a result, the pay offer has increased from 3.5% to 5.25% (the second installment coming in July), and
DLR staff will also get a travel concession, pay equalisation measures, and a £100 New Year bonus.

Lesson: if you're prepared to fight, you can win.
