Lambeth Council bans trade union from Staff Conference

A number of Groups (sectors) in PCS are striking on 24 April alongside the teachers and lecturers.

Our strike will make the news and will undoubtedly worry the powers that be; how much better if the whole of the PCS union was on strike.

RMT has indeed called off its strike on Metronet, but not without naffing off a fair few of its own reps and activists.

Several weeks overdue, the health service Pay Review Body finally made its recommendation to the government on 4 April — three days after the rise should have been implemented.

The 2008 National Union of Teachers (NUT) conference was unlike any other in the recent past. The difference? For almost a year NUT activists have been preparing the ground for the first national strike in over two decades. The attack on teachers pay and the unions' industrial response to it shaped the opening days and determined the mood of the rest of conference.

Conference notes with dismay the decisions taken at the 2007 Labour Party conference to abolish the ability of affiliated trade unions to set or change Labour Party policy. Unions and CLPs are now barred from putting political motions to Labour Party conference.

This is drafted as a motion for national union conferences, but can be adapted for local union branches and Trades Councils.
