Wake for the East London line?
RMT will be protesting against East London line privatisation, just as the line closes for the extension to be built. Get yerselves along there.
Thursday 13th December, 11am
outside City Hall
Of course, it is much better to stop the privatisation than to mourn it. It is a serious setback that we have got to the point of the line's closure with no progess in our fight to stop the sell-off.
That says a lot about the fight itself. There has been a lot of welcome leafleting and lobbying, but protest postcards alone will not keep the East London line public. LUL has gone ahead with transferring staff off the line so they can hand an empty tenancy to the new operator, and the unions have allowed them to do so without even a sniff of industrial action.
The fight is never over until its over. But the unions must seriously raise their game to have any hope of winning this one.
