Camels, Eyes Of Needles

Posted in Janine's blog on ,

One of the many things I remember from my Christian upbringing is that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven. So Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo must have created either a very large needle or a very small camel, or both.

Pastor Matthew, you see, is on a quarter of a million quid a year, dwarfing the mere £66,140 that the Archbishop of Canterbury apparently needs to keep the wolf from the door. The well-endowed Pastor is leader of the Kingsway International Christian Centre, which rips off its flock to fund his lavish lifestyle.

In 2005, the Charity Commission investigated and denounced Pastor Matthew and his church, also know as the King's Ministries Trust, ordering him to pay back £200,000 to the KMT/KICC. He has so far managed to return a whole £20,000 - presumably he needs the rest to maintain the standard of self-sacrifice and devotion to which his faith calls him.

After all, one of KMT's stated aims is the relief of poverty. It has certainly succeeded in Pastor's Matthew's case.

Pastor Matthew's heavily-laden camel will struggle to get through that, then. Or even to walk at all.
