ASLEF backs John McDonnell

Train drivers' union ASLEF has voted to back John McDonnell as the next Labour Party leader. Their Executive met this week and voted unanimously to back McDonnell.

ASLEF is the first affiliated trade union to back any candidate for the Labour leadership.

Commenting on the endorsement, John McDonnell said:

"This demonstrates the depth of support we have established throughout the movement. Our simple message is that a programme based upon peace, public services, equality and workers' rights wins enormous support."

ASLEF has also recently decided to affiliate to the Labour Representation Committee. The BFAWU, CWU, FBU and RMT are also affiliated to the LRC. The RMT has already voted to back John McDonnell's leadership bid.
