Stop Press: Mayor Suspends Late Night Running

LUL Pay 2006

Mayor Ken Livingstone has announced that he has suspended later running because he can't get an agreement with the unions.

This is surely an admission that LUL management's strategy of withholding staff's pay rise in order to force through later running on the company's terms has failed.

Now later running is off the table (for now), it should be clear to all Tube workers what the current dispute is about - PAY. Now we can finally put to bed the nonsense that the strike ballot was about drivers, a red herring put about by management to divide the grades.

Laughably, Livingstone's statement repeats the ridiculous claim that RMT is not putting the pay offer to a vote of its members. That vote is happening right now. It's called a strike ballot - VOTE YES!

Even more laughably, Livingstone doesn't seem to know what BTOG even stands for (it's "Officers" not "Operators"), which tells you something about how significant an organisation it really is ie. not at all.

LUL PAY RISE

At long last issues are clear. We need to get the message out on the shop floor that this dispute is about our rightful pay rise, multi year deals and divisive "Bonus schemes".
It will be interesting to see if management realy do want to negotiate on the real issues facing the staff(I am not holding my breath).
We must not forget that even when the pay dispute is won, they will be trying to bring in new terms and conditions packages with the late and absence procedure and the disciplinary procedure. There are many fights ahead of us and we must be prepared for them.
The major problem on LUL is the managements ability to divide and rule. The TSSA (Too Scared of Strike Action) will never stand up to management bullying. This leaves the stations weak and divided and gives the other scabs in ASLEF an excuse to work (because the stations are open).
We need one Union representing all railway workers. I know only one Union that is up to the job, The RMT. We have a long history of militant struggle and can be proud of the lead that we take in every dispute.
Every RMT member should be a potential recruiter. REPS should be talking to people and recruiting members to become recruiters in there own right. A pile of application forms should be left with those willing to recruit and leaflets and propaganda can also be distibuted by them.
Lets get our members busy defending themselves and building their Union.
