Pay: Not til New Year?!
Management have put out a bulletin saying that if the unions do not agree to their awful pay offer, then staff will not get our pay rise until 2007. There's a phrase for this kind of behaviour: holding a gun to our heads.
The questions LUL does not answer are:
- Why should the unions agree to an offer that they don't actually agree with?!
- What justification can management possibly have for not paying up for this year now?
Management are doing their best to turn RMT members against their union by encouraging station staff to think that the reason for the delay is that RMT is holding out for a special deal for train drivers. Now, that's not true - but it is easy to understand why people would think that, especially if the union does not put out enough material to explain its position.
One of the upshots of RMT's 'waiting game' strategy is that discontent can spread, especially as the cash-draining festive season approaches.
What we need from the union is more information, more answers to management's mischievous propaganda, and a clearer strategy for forcing management to deliver our pay rise.
