Deal or No Deal

LUL Pay 2006

The annual saga which is the pay deal is upon us once again, and once again the Unions (mainly the RMT) are in disagreement over the offer from LUL.

The deal is a 5 year one which is something to be sceptical about straight away because once it’s been agreed staff will be stuck with it. Also the terms that come with this deal such as performance-related bonuses are flawed too.

Staff should be very wary of this deal and the Unions must ensure we don’t sign up to it. However we don’t particularly want to be drawn into a protracted dispute if we can help it because there are bigger battles on the way such as pensions and the future of the East London line.

Union Reps must talk to their members and ensure that the Union hierarchy knows what they want from this deal.

So in answer to the question: No Deal to this deal!

Protracted dsipute?

On one level, no-one ever wants to be drawn into a protracted dispute. But it's better than accepting rubbish!

The best option would be for management to suddenly see the light and give in to the unions' demands. But should that particular pig fail to take off, we may well have to have a dispute. In which case, let's make sure it is effective.

The sort of protracted dispute that really naffs people off is the sort that goes on for ages but ends in defeat. One way to avoid that is not to fight at all. The other, better, way is to fight effectively and decisively.
