Stop Islamist violence against women!

From the Organisation of Women’s Freedom in Iraq

In one of the public health sectors in the city of Mosul, the Islamists have committed several misogynist crimes, in their thirst for blood and hatred for women.

The Islamist terrorist savages can not tolerate women working feed themselves and their families. They want them blindfolded, covered by hijab and heavy rags, thrown in the kitchens of their houses serving as slaves. They want them humiliated, with no opinion or character or a normal life like any sane human being of our time.

Political Islamist groups exploit the chaos, lack of security and absence of law since the US war and subsequent occupation to disseminate horror and terrorism across Iraq. Everyday, they add more transgressions to their criminal record against civility and women’s right. Recently these women were murdered by these Islamists:

1. Lina al-Aswad, a medical doctor who has been practising for the last 10 years. She was shot dead in Al Qayara, Mosul.

2. Hefi Abdul Satar, a pharmacist in al-Khansaa Hospital. She was gunned down before her house in al-Noor suburb. Her family has also been threatened by these terrorists.

3. Sanabul Nwel Tabakh, a veterinarian, killed in Wahda suburb in Mousul, while on her way to work.

4. Layla Abdulla al-Haj Said, a professor of Law and Dean of the Law Faculty at the University of Mosul. She was gunned down with her husband. She was also beheaded to further terrorise people in that suburb.

5. Iman Abdul Monem Younis, a lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and head of Translation Department at the University of Mosul, was gunned down.

6. Tagrid Abdul Masih, a public servant in the town of Bartila.

7. Hala Abdul Masih (Tagrid’s sister), a public servant in Bartila.

8. Tara Majeed Butros, a public servant in Bartilla.

Mass killing is practiced against women working as interpreters or working with foreign companies. Many were murdered in the last several months in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities.

Political Islam’s violence against women must be stopped. The terrorist Islamic forces must be expelled from the Iraqi society. This task relies on the willpower of women and men who are seeking a world where freedom and security prevail. This goal will only take place if the secular and freedom-loving forces stand up to the Islamic terrorism, which claims the lives of more women every moment merely for being women.

Let us make ending Islamic terrorism against women in Iraq our priority and urgent task.

Join the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq to struggle together to put an end to the Islamic violence against women.

We call on all women and men in Iraq and worldwide to collaborate and struggle to end the Islamic violence against women.

I am a Muslim woman and i tak

I am a Muslim woman and i take great offense that instead of degrading the people who misuse Islam, Islam itself is being degraded. I know that the west and many people automatically assume that just because women wear a hijab, they are being degraded. This simply is not true. What people need to understand is that once again it is the people who misuse and misrepresent Islam. Islam does not allow for crimes against women but it does call for women and men as well to follow Islamic laws. Islam was the first religion to give rights and privelages to woman and this includes inheritance and education. Women can choose any profession as long as it does not interfere with their religion, which most professions do not. I understand that some women are being treated badly and we do have to do something about it. What we have to do is not blame Islam and promote education for the people who enforce Islam on them without knowing what Islam is all about. Nothing will change if brute force is promoted. My second point is that a country does not have to be secular. Just because it is the growing trend in most countries it should not be pressed upon by outsiders. You can't go into a country that has been around for thousands of years and expect them to change their ways in one day or even one year. If it was really that bad, there would be a social movement and the people would rebell. This is all I have to say for now and i hope that i have brought another perspective for people to look at.

violence against women of all cultures

I am one of many hundreds, possibly thousands of women in the uk who works for an organisation to support the survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Statistics vary depending on who carried them out, but the official statistics are that at least 2 women a week die as a result of violence in the uk - simply because they are women. Check the womens aid federation of england website for more statistics. I have checked the websites of similiar organisations worldwide - USA, France, Canada, Israel, Italy, Australia, and there are similar statistics.
War is being waged against women of all cultures; we must all stop pointing the finger anywhere else but home, step out of the veils we place upon ourselves to protect our cultures and realise the full extent of the problem.
Perhaps if God was female, and her priestesses held in esteem, things would be different.
I have no time for anyones gods until the spiritual leaders of all our nations speak out against the international terrorism waged aginst women.

Violence against women & Islamic sacred texts

Dear Anonymous,

Much as I recognise your concern, there is an issue with Islam's sacred texts. Those who abuse women in Islam are able to call upon certain texts for support. I think of:

Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and beat them.
Qur'an 4:34

Or, in the hadith:

Once Muhammad went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you women." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the testimony of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Sahih Bukhari, Book 1, Vol 6, No 301

Until these kind of misogynistic texts are addressed (and I could list many, many more), the women-haters in Islam (however many there are) will still be able to justify what they do by their religion.

Re:

This person is right, it is not Islam that treats women badly, it is people who treat women badly.
But this is not true....
"I understand that SOME women are being treated badly and we do have to do something about it."
"If it was really that bad, there would be a social movement and the people would rebell."
It really is that bad. Step outside your own life and go research what is happening to not just Islamic women, but to women across the globe.
I know that this reply is a year after the comment was posted, but to anyone who reads this now, don't just say if it was that bad they would do something about it. Every eight minutes in AMERICA, where women have equal rights, a woman is raped. What about countries where women don't have any rights at all?!
I am offended that you can be a woman, especially a Muslim woman and not care.
