Platform CCTV Shambles

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

On the Jubilee Line at Wembley Park, there as in issue with the in cab CCTV. It sometimes shows the opposite platform as you depart. If the timing is right (or wrong) it can look as though the doors have opened and people are getting off as you move along, because passengers are disembarking the train in the opposite platform.

This platform was once a Cat A, because the Jubilee Line has in-cab CCTV and so, you can’t see the train all of the way out of the platform. However during the Great Olympic Safety Rule Purge, this was changed so that at any platform the driver can see the length of from the cab when shutting the doors they can self dispatch.

But this is where it gets confused. To fix the ongoing issue of the dodgy CCTV, it has been suggested that monitors or mirrors be placed on the platform instead. Perhaps a new category of platform needs to be invented for when you have both in cab CCTV and a monitor on the platform?

The re-categorisation of platforms has meant that CCTV issues take longer to fix, safety is reduced and Tube bosses use it as an excuse to cut station staff where they are needed the most.
