Iran: condemn the execution of Farzad Kamangar and other political prisoners

The Iranian regime executed education worker, teacher and human rights activist Farzad Kamangar and four political prisoners on 9 May. Farzad Kamangarn, Ali Heydarian, Farhad Vakilie, Shirin Alamhouli and Mehdi Eslamian were all executed in Evin Prison. None of the lawyers nor the families of the defendants were aware of executions.

I (we) am (are) writing this to strongly condemn the execution of Fazad Kamnagar, teacher, labour and human rights’ activist by the Islamic Republic of Iran along with four other political prisoners.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has executed education worker, teacher and human rights activist Farzad Kamangar and four political prisoners in Iran today, May 9, 2010. According to the latest report, Mr. Farzad Kamangarn,Mr. Ali Heydarian, Mr. Farhad Vakilie, Ms. Shirin Alamhouli and Mr. Mehdi Eslamian were all executed today. None of the lawyers nor the families of the defendants were aware of executions.

I (we) condemn continuous gross attacks on human and workers’ rights in Iran. I (we) demand the immediate and unconditional freedom of all political prisoners and jailed workers and students.

I (we) call on the Iranian government to fully respect workers’ and human rights including freedom of speech and expression, and the rights to organize, assemble and protest. We call on the IRI to put an end to persecution of labour and human rights activists and social justice and political organizations and not to impede their activities. No one should be persecuted, jailed and assaulted because of practicing their fundamental human rights. Torture and executions must be stopped immediately.
