We are glad that the ban imposed on Workers’ Liberty by the Labour Party National Executive on 29 March 2022 was explicit that debating with Workers’ Liberty is not to be penalised.

Even if that is an escape clause to safeguard prominent Labour Party figures both of left and right who have debated with Workers’ Liberty, it establishes the principle: these ideas are good to be debated among socialists.

We believe Labour Party meetings too should be open to debate on those ideas. And the Labour Party will be poorer for trying to remove the active contribution of Workers’ Liberty people. The Executive cited no harmful action by Workers’ Liberty people in making its ban.

We call on the National Executive to reverse this ban. The Labour Party will be better able to defeat the Tories if we organise as a broad church, with no bans and proscriptions, and disciplinary action only after due process and for specific harmful actions.
