Defend Gyles Henry

London Underground has sacked a worker at London Bridge over an alleged incident with a customer. But the company’s only “evidence” against Gyles is the say-so of a different customer who admitted there was no violence involved, but speculated that there might have been! Karen Reissmann loses appeal - stays sacked

Karen Reissmann has lost her appeal against being sacked. No grounds were given and Karen was told she would be informed in writing. This was widely expected as those hearing the appeal were involved in the Mental Health Trust Karen worked for and were implicated in the original decision to sack her.

Over a thousand people braved the cold and the rain to support of victimised trade union activist Karen Reissman in Manchester on 24 November. The majority demonstrating were fellow workers, who remain on strike to support Karen as well as and patients and their families who support this important dispute.

Manchester Mental Health Unison has voted to strike indefinitely after the announcement that its chair, SWP member Karen Reissman, is being sacked - supposedly for disciplinary reasons, but in fact because of her vocal opposition to cuts in mental health provision.

On Monday 5 November psychiatric nurse and chair of the Manchester Community and Mental Health branch of UNISON, Karen Reissmann, was sacked by the local mental health trust. Karen’s crime was to have spoken out publicly as a trade unionist against a reorganisation of mental health services that would have led to cuts.

Oxford postal rep victimised: support needed!

Several hundred posties at Oxford sorting office got back to work on Monday to find that Steve Gill, a Post Office driver and one of their union reps, had been suspended from work without charge by the management.

Defend Antony Czubkowski

Shop steward and long-standing union activist Antony Czubkowski has been sacked by energy firm E.ON, in reaction to his complaint about being subjected to a verbal attack by his boss.
Antony has for the last 18 years been a leading Amicus activist, and in July 2006 convened a meeting for the five unions operating in E.ON. The manager, with a long record of anti-union and bullying behaviour, tried to sneak into the back of the meeting — Antony politely asked him to leave.

The Daily Mirror has launched a pathetic witch-hunt against public sector workers and against union reps. And apparently it does not see the irony in lambasting an engineer for being "overpaid" on the same front page that carries pictures of the genuinely and obscenely overpaid celebs who populated the National Television Awards.

Many of you will be aware that Prime Minister Tony Blair and Education Secretary Alan Johnson are visiting our school today. They are here to celebrate their new agenda for education in England. QK school will be at the forefront of the first wave of 20 or 30 schools to be removed from local democratic control and handed over to big business and religious organisations as "Trust Schools" - as outlined in the recently passed Education and Inspections Bill 2006.

Defend the Amicus 3!

Some 30 Amicus members lobbied the March meeting of the Amicus National Executive Council (NEC) in protest at the sacking of three Amicus employees: Des Heemskerk, Jimmy Warne and Cathie Willis. The three were suspended from their jobs in Amicus in mid-September of last year. All three are leading members of “Amicus Unity Gazette”, the broad left grouping in Amicus.
