Wot No Hi Vi?

Tubeworker was alarmed that discussion on the new LU uniform indicated that station staff might no longer need hi visibility vests.

The 'new hi vi' strategy is under discussion, apparently. LU is looking at the possibility of developing a 'one use', disposable hi vi, and removing the requirement for station staff to carry it around at all times.

LU is clearly planning for a world where station staff do not access the track or perform safety critical duties on platforms. Or maybe it simply isn't aware how often we need our hi vi's, e.g. meeting emergency services at an RVP or carrying out station evacuations.

The new uniform is all about staff 'visibility'. LU wants to dress us in clown-like bright colours to deliver 'customer service', but it does not want to equip us to run a railway and pay us accordingly.
