Just In Time?

No doubt to save money, LU have waited to the absolute last minute to recruit staff for the Olympics.

For about three years on stations, LU was leaving vacancies un-filled in preparation for last year's jobs cull. In the end they left more un-filled than the number of places they needed to abolish. Bizarrely, since last February, stations have been carrying vacancies despite LU having fewer posts to fill.

We've been coping with understaffing for three years and LU wait to within weeks of the Olympics opening ceremony to let newly-recruited CSAs onto our stations.

A similar story on the trains. On the Jubilee Line, for example, 80 new drivers will arrive just in time for the Olympics. Routine problems, such as door problems, can be easily sorted by an experienced driver, but are stressful in the early days.

The new Jubilee timetable provides a more frequent service. Every second is going to count. The eyes of the world will be watching how one of LU's flagship Olympic lines performs. Drivers will be expected to know exactly what to do. An immense amount of pressure for a newly-qualified driver!
