Cover on the Cheap

The Intranet is advertising an exciting opportunity for Jubilee Line station staff. A promotion? Promise of job security?

No. Realising that station staff feel stuck in a rut as cutbacks promise the same or a worse job for years to come, they have offered up a scam where you can apply to become a Line Information Specialist (LIS). They will give you five days' training, and then you will be expected to cover duties in Neasden Control Room when required......for no extra money!

Bearing in mind that LIS grade is paid about £15k more a year than a CSA, this is nothing other than cover on the cheap.

It is also seriously insulting to the role of an LIS, who is trained far longer than five days to do their job.

So, thanks for the offer, LU, but we would prefer some actual promotional opportunities. You could start by scrapping the job cuts plan, which is severing promotional channels for over a thousand station staff on the waiting list for ticket office jobs.
