'Yob Crow'?

The Evening Standard, The Sun and other right-wing rags were full this week of the ‘story’ that RMT General Secretary hurled abuse at Morecambe’s manager at a match with Dagenham and Redbridge.

The only ‘story’ here is basically that ... Bob Crow went to a football match. His behaviour, which was described as ‘ungentlemanly’ doesn’t sound any different to what you’d expect at a game.

Even RMT critics could see that spinning this non-story into a full-page article was nothing more than desperation to have a go at Bob Crow.

Well, they’ve done us a favour, for once. It has been a nice example of how biased the media are against Bob Crow, the RMT and any other working class organisation. Owned by Rupert Murdoch, one of the richest and most powerful people on the planet, it is no wonder that The Sun is full of anti-working class hatred.

At the same time as LU staff are leafletting and contacting the press to get public opinion on our side about job cuts, here is an example that shows that, whatever we try, the corporate media will be our arch enemy.

The last thing the Rupert Murdochs and other employers of the world want to see is for workers to dare to challenge the capitalist system they prop up and profit by. If The Sun hates unions, it’s because we don’t always let them have their way. If they want to write a full page article criticising a union leader, then good. We must be doing something right.

I agree, but that fact that

I agree, but the fact that the Sun was able to mention Bob's £128k income made him look a bit less than an "ordinary bloke at a football match".

Union leaders should not be on fat-cat salaries. The main reason is that such sums give them a lifestyle way above their members'; but although the media are going to attack unions anyway, it would be better if we didn't give them unnecessary ammunition.

Agree

I agree with Liza. We have been saying for years that union leaders should be getting a salary equal to the rank and file they serve. As to Bob's 128k....I dont know, I was under the impression it was approx 75k. Even so, 3 times more than what an SA gets.

As for Murdoch, he is filth of the worst kind.
