TSSA: Daft or What?

We are mostly hearing the right noises from RMT about fighting London Underground's plan to cull up to 800 jobs. We've heard little so far from ASLEF, but what's this - a TSSA press release?

After a justified pop at BoJo, TSSA General Secretary spoils it all by writing "We shall fight this all the way if any of our staff are threatened with compulsory redundancy over this planned cutback."

Now what's the point of that, when:
(a) we already have a binding agreement ensuring no compulsory redundancies; and
(b) TfL stated clearly in its press release that there would be no compulsory redundancies?

Gerry's statement amounts to, "Look, we're very tough you know, and we will kick up a jolly big hooha if you do the thing that you have already said you are not going to do and which you can't do anyway." Or maybe, "Cut all these posts through voluntary severance, freezing vacancies, unfair medical terminations and sackings, and you won't hear a wimper out of us."

Honestly, if TSSA didn't exist, management would have to invent them. TSSA members should insist that their union fight these job cuts however management go about implementing them, and if they can't get them to do so, might conclude that it better to be in a union that might.

Getting Better

We hear that TSSA has told London Underground that if it doesn't withdraw the job cuts within a week, it will be in dispute. Things are looking up then.
