RMT Bows Out Too

Casualisation dispute 2007-08

Following its reps' meeting at lunchtime, RMT's Executive has decided to call off the strike action. But at least it has not gone so far as to actually accept management's offer. And it has resolved to 'remain vigilant'!

Check back on Tubeworker's blog later for a report on the reps' meeting and some commentary on the situation.

RMT Reps Meeting

Interesting Thoughts

At least TSSA allowed a democratic vote regarding the strike action

My sources state that RMT Reps were told that they WOULD accept the offer!

Is this the face of a United party seeking the opinions of its Reps?

No Vote

That's true - there was no vote at the RMT reps' meeting. At least one rep asked for a vote to be taken, but was told by the chair that "we don't do things like that". There ought to be votes.

Having said that, the decision by the Executive did reflect the majority view of the meeting (sadly) - if not my personal view! There was a report and recommendation from the top table, then dozens of reps spoke. I think a fair few people got got the feeling that it was all a foregone conclusion, and certainly there was no way of registering your view if you did not speak.

Lets wait till November an

Lets wait till November an the pay talks...

Good to see the two major station unions working together

Lets hope the drivers would support the next vote as ultimately they rely on station staff now the role of the guard has been displaced

Yes, but ...

Let's not wait til November to start the fight over pay. Let's start now, beginning with a discussion around union branches about what the pay claim should be, rather than sitting back and allowing head office to conjure one up that might not actually refelct the aspirations of Tube workers.
