Detrain Alone? Er - No!

Back in early February, there was a suspected one-under at Kenton, which came to light when a Virgin train stopped short at Harrow & Wealdstone early in the morning.

Just after 8am, line control phoned Harrow & Wealdstone and asked for ONE CSA to go to Kenton to do detrainments. Yes, that's one. Also known as ... lone working. You know, unacceptable, subject to current ongoing dispute. To make matters worse, they were being asked to detrain alone at a station at which they were not familiarised and where they would have no access to a place of safety!

Fortunately, each CSA who was asked to go was an experienced staff member and refused to go alone. Even more fortunately, the serivce resumed shortly afterwards, so it didn't become a major issue.

But it all goes to show how right the detrainment staff are to pursue their dispute, and how readily management will put us at risk if we let them.
