ASLEF Members Criticise Leaders

LUL Pay 2006

There is disquiet within ASLEF over the Society's behaviour in the recent pay dispute. In particular, some rank-and-file members are rightly angered by ASLEF:

  • Circulating pro formas to members to claim the pay rise before the referendum had even started, let alone finished. It was almost as though the leadership was taking the result for granted!

  • Collaborating with management to attack and isolate RMT.
  • Accepting the pay offer even though it included the Customer Satisfaction Survey bonus which ASLEF has policy against.

ASLEF members should take their leadership to task about all these things. Union democracy is a crucial issue, and while rival unions perhaps inevitably squabble, lining up with management against another union crosses a line of solidarity.

ASLEFs ROLE IN OUR PAY DISPUTE

The ASLEF leadership should be pilloried by their members for supporting the managements attempts to pay their members and not ours. There are many good ASLEF members that will take their leadership to task over this disguting betrayal of Union solidarity.
Unfortunately there are many more in ASLEF and TSSA that agree with the leadership line and take an "im all right jack" approach to everything.
I have stood on picket lines in Upminster and watched so called activists cross our lines. At one time we broke the law to stand alongside them and the following week they were crossing our lines.
The leadership of both of these Organisations saw a chance of recruitment rather than an attack on a sister Union. Shame on them and shame on those that support them in the next round of elections.
