GobForPay vs 'Popinjay'

Posted in Pete's blog on ,

New York on Wednesday will see a debate between Galloway, the darling of the idiot left in Britain, and Christopher Hitchens, Iraq occupation supporter and Bush apologist.
Galloway is off in the States promoting his book and being courted by many on the left who should know better. Still, Galloway is a recent discovery for them and his bombastic performance in the Senate did the Bush administration no good.
Our US comrades haven't had the benefit of seeing Galloway much, so no doubt it will be a learning experience.
Let's hope Galloway and Hitchens will expose each other and themselves in the encounter. But I wouldn't bet too much on naked flesh being revealed.
More likely there will be an even more confused US anti-war left. The pro-war left in the US seems to be far smaller. To be seen in an alliance with Bush directly is clearly even more embarrassing than an alliance with Blair.
Still it's nice to see that a leaflet of Galloway quotes is being distributed by Hitchen supporters at Harry's Place. Hopefully there will also be some US anti-war socialists distancing themselves from Galloway.
The debate will be webcast on http://kpftx.org/ for those that can stand it.

Apparently Radio 4 are playing it Saturday, 17th Sept, at 10:15 (pm I think but check the schedules). Listen to it or tape it if you can't get web access to it. You won't find a coherent defensible position put by anyone but it is still worth a listen.
Post your observations here after that.
From what I heard Galloway supporters were a little surprised at the support Hitchens got. I heard one say 'this is New York,...where did they (supporters of Hitchens) come from, are they Israel supporters?'.
Hopefully those who cheered Hitchens exposure of Galloway won't go along with his support for Bush in the elections and the occupation. Something the anti-war left in the US need to understand if they are not to face the division here in the UK.

I really was hoping both Hitchens and Galloway would both be given pistols and proceed to shoot each other. Then the world would be rid of both the good friend of Paul Wolfowitz and the good friend of Tariq Aziz. Two sides of the same anti-worker coin.

I can't say I've followed Greg Pallast politics too closely but he has a couple of good posts on his website during the last week. He appears to be a recent discoverer of Galloway's squalid history. See this and this.
He is also speaking alongside Cindy Sheehan in a few days so hopefully his discoveries will be making it through to the US anti-war movement.
Other Galloway news.
Jane Fonda has withdrawn from speaking alongside Galloway citing a recent operation (although it could well be Galloway's and Hitchen's operation in New York).
Galloway meanwhile appeared in Toronto and criticised those who refused to accept an accommodation with Sharia Law in the recent Ontario Senate decision. The Canadian Anti-war meeting sounds very depressing with many falling on the Galloway bandwagon as appears to the report here.
