Leaflet - Students should support the UCU strike

Posted in danrawnsley's blog on ,

On Thursday the 24th of March lecturers in colleges across the country will be striking against attacks on their pensions, the threat of redundancies and pay cuts. Our tutors will be taking part in one of the first major trade union actions against the government's austerity plans. They need our support!

Why should we show solidarity?

The government is attacking all of us. We need to stand together against all cuts to jobs and services.
The government is attacking further education. We need to defend courses from closure. The government plans for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) could see courses closing across the country.
We need to fight for free education. Education benefits our whole society. Tax the rich to fund free education.
We need to defend jobs and a pension. Don't let the government drive down our standard of living.

What can you do?

Tell your teacher that you support the strike. Ask lecturers who aren't on strike to support resistance to attacks on education.
Don't cross picket lines on the 24th. Boycott your classes.
Join the demonstration for ESOL on the 24th at Old Palace Yard by Parliament from 11.30 to 1pm.
March against the government's cuts on the 26th of March.
