Vote John Moloney for PCS Deputy General Secretary!

The national pay debacle shows that the PCS national leadership needs a radical shake up and I am the DGS candidate to deliver it.

PCS needs to elect me as DGS because it needs a DGS who:

  • has consistently put forward coherent and imaginative ideas to win national pay, fight low pay, defend our pensions and jobs, and step up the campaign for equality;
  • has a long track record of achievement, imagination, drive, determination, and commitment;
  • has never sought and never will seek to earn mega bucks out of the membership dues of a predominantly low paid membership;
  • will not simply say what the leadership wants to hear and will not spin success stories where none has been achieved.

A VERY DIFFERENT CANDIDATE TO MR LANNING

I am a very different candidate to the current DGS incumbent, Mr. Hugh Lanning, and I will be a very different and better DGS.

When Hugh Lanning contested the General Secretary post in 2000 against Mark Serwotka, the latter said, “Hugh Lanning has been in a position of leadership at a time when our jobs have come under unprecedented attack and our pay has declined compared to other sectors.” Unfortunately that statement remains as true today as it was then.

The February 2008 edition of PCS View said, “There’s not enough [pay], its unfairly distributed, and, worse still, for many of us, the situation is getting worse.” It is a damning record of the current leadership, of which Mr. Lanning is an integral part. The rest of 2008 did not see any improvement – on the contrary it saw a national leadership pulling out of the national pay campaign as fast as it could while below inflation pay settlements were still being imposed across the civil service. It really is time for a change.

FOR A PCS CHAMPIONING MEMBERSHIP INTERESTS

Most of Mr. Lanning’s supporters will support him out of electoral convenience rather than policy agreement or admiration – they support him and his associates in elections and receive the compliment in return. As DGS I will champion membership interests in a membership led union.
