Nottingham Gate Gourmet support meeting

Gate Gourmet

Meeting YMCA, Wednesday, 7:30pm, Oct 5th
Download leaflet (draft 3) from here.
This meeting is still going ahead despite the calling off of the Gate Gourmet dispute. Why?
1) The speaker and 7 other Gate Gourmet workers are anxious to come and continue the meeting. They point out that their struggle is not yet over.
2) The 3 Heathrow Workers remain sacked. There is a ballot planned and the workers there deserve support.
3) The 'resolution' of the Gate Gourmet would no doubt have been very different had the Heathrow workers (and others) been able to continue solidarity action without legal threats against them and their union. The union vote at Labour Party conference show a unity and determination to change the anti-union laws that needs to be built on. We need to act on that.
4) 'Could this be a start of a new trades council?'. People have been asking that question. In Nottingham, as in many places, trades councils have ceased to function. We need to consider what means we can establish locally for effective local trade union co-ordination. There are a number of important campaigning issues, such as the present FBU dispute in Nottingham and the NUT's campaign against the private academies, that need and deserve wide trade union and public support. This needs to be organised.
